Boston Conservatory at Berklee soprano and Robert C. Volante Opera Scholar Francesca Mehrotra (M.M. ’21, opera) sings "Par le rang et par l'opulence...Salut à la France" from 'La Fille Du Régiment,' composed by Gaetano Donizetti and set to a French libretto by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Jean-François Bayard. Mehrotra is performing in Boston Conservatory's Seully Hall and is accompanied by Boston Conservatory collaborative piano student and Alfred E. Lee Memorial Scholar Eoin Clark (M.M. ’21). In this scene, Mehrotra portrays Marie, an orphan raised by a regiment of French soldiers who has been reunited with her wealthy aunt and is living in her villa. Feeling out of place in her aunt’s world and missing her regimental “fathers,” as well as her lover Tonio, Marie ponders the worth of wealth without love. Suddenly, she hears a commotion outside and rejoices upon realizing that her regiment has come to her. Learn more about Mehrotra at https://www.francescamehrotra.com.
