✎ He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. His father was an alcoholic who left the family when Oldman was seven years old. He left school at the age of 16 to work in a sports shop. He began acting on stage in 1979 and gained his first starring film role in Meantime (1983). He performed at London's Royal Court and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Films in which he has starred have grossed over $10.9 billion. In Léon: The Professional, he played a corrupt DEA officer, which has been named as one of the best villains in cinema. He was a pianist as a child, and later a singer, but gave up his musical aspirations to pursue an acting career. He's known for playing the primary antagonist in a number of popular motion pictures. He's regarded as one of the greatest screen actors of his generation.
