Ever-increasing scientific and technological biomedical advances are making it difficult for physicians to focus on what matters most to patients. Limited time to solve complex medical problems and enter data into electronic health records often stands in the way of building a strong patient rapport. So physicians are learning to be more intentional in filtering out distractions and being present so they can be compassionate and empathic listeners.
