The United Nations website (www.un.org) was launched on 26 June 1995 as a pilot project, in English only, featuring some basic information on the work of the Organization. In 2015, Web Services Section (WSS) oversees the design, development and presentation of the top layers of the UN website in all six official languages, including the homepage, the five thematic portals (Peace and Security, Development, Human Rights, Humanitarian Affairs, and International Law), as well as comprehensive background information about the UN such as global issues, and events, including international observances. Ranging from Facebook, Twitter, Google+ to Weibo, Youku and Vkontakte, to name a few, WSS maintains an official UN presence on social media platforms in five languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) and undertakes social media campaigns.
