High-functioning depression or dysthymia is harder to detect than major depressive disorder (MDD) because the people who have it, are often high achievers giving the impression of everything is all right. Based on a study by the National Institute of Mental health in 2016, about 16.2 million Americans had at least one episode of major depression. While the signs of high-functioning depression are not obvious, getting through the day is truly exhausting. So here are a few things people with HFD wants you to know.
