Mary was separated from her two children, aged only 10 and 12, by US immigration at their home in Brownsville, Texas. They had been living there for 7 years. US immigration did not tell Mary where they had taken her children. Mary was jailed for 7 months, and deported with her family to Guatemala. The area where the family returned to is impoverished and crime-ridden.

Children – no matter where they come from or what their migration status – are children first and foremost. Those who were left with no option but to flee their homes have the right to be protected, access essential services, and to be with their families – just like all children. Learn more here:
