FULL STORY:
“Steering into the Future”
At twenty-two, Michael was too old to believe in magic, but he felt that the letter he had just written to Santa Claus was actually a message to the Universe. He wanted to convey his desire for a car. He would be graduating soon from college and planned to live at home until he earned enough to move out on his own. Until that time, he would need his own set of wheels to drive to work. (Of course, first he had to land a good-paying job!)
Using his mother’s or father’s car was not an option because they each needed a way to get to work. Public transportation was also out of the question since no buses or trains reached his small town. Michael had saved some money from all his previous summer jobs, but he knew he still lacked the funds to afford a decent car – even a used one.
On December twenty-third, Christmas came early for Michael. He received a job offer with one of the companies he had applied to. In fact, it was his top choice. They were impressed with his academic record and internship experience. It certainly helped that Michael had nailed his interview back in November. The HR department was prepared to offer this impressive candidate a respectable starting salary…and the use of a company car!
