United Nations - Ebola Update by Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General at the Daily Noon Briefing at UN Headquarters in New York (5 December 2014).
(Update)
EBOLA
Good afternoon. A couple of things: I think we just won’t go too much into the ECOSOC meeting. We just heard a fairly detailed analysis of what is happening in ECOSOC on the meeting on Ebola. Just to add that the Secretary-General was there and stressed that the social and economic impact of the Ebola crisis has been broad and deep and would long outlast the outbreak itself.
The Secretary-General added that the three most affected countries have experienced significant development setbacks and that hard-won peace dividends are now being eroded.
He said that the international response to date has been unprecedented in its speed and generosity, but much more will be asked once the emergency is over.
