"Global problems require global solutions" - UN Chief on cooperation with League of Arab States

UN chief António Guterres noted “with deep concern this morning’s security incidents in the Strait of Hormuz” adding that “if there is something the world cannot afford, it is a major confrontation in the Gulf region.”
Speaking at a Security Council meeting on cooperation between the United Nations and the Arab League, Guterres said he strongly condemned “any attack against civilian vessels” and noted that facts must be established, and “responsibilities clarified.”
On cooperation with regional organizations, Guterres said it had been his priority since day to prevent conflict and sustain peace adding that the UN’s cooperation with the League of Arab States (LAS) is pivotal. He announced that the UN Liaison Office to the LAS in Cairo would become operational this month. He said the Liaison Office, which is the first funded by the UN regular budget, would will improve the effectiveness of cooperation between the two organizations.
