When food cravings strike, most of us want to know how to STOP cravings and resist the urge. We search for how to control food cravings by keeping the food away from us, how to curb sugar cravings when they show up, or we try to reach for “healthy alternatives” when we’re caught up in a stress eating cycle.

Yet, so much of what we THINK we know about controlling cravings can actually make cravings worse. Whether we’re craving sweets or carbs or salty foods, when we try to RESIST our cravings, sometimes those cravings get even stronger! So how can we deal with food cravings instead?

First we’ll dive into some of the myths surrounding how to stop food cravings, and then I’ll share my go-to method for dealing with cravings: with mindfulness and awareness. We’ll see cravings for what they really are—sensations in the body—without getting caught up in them.
