Laser Lab Supercomputer Ranked One of the World’s Most Powerful

Conesus is a supercomputer, one of a new series, that will be used by the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE). Along with being one of the world’s TOP 500 most-powerful computer systems, it is also among the TOP 100 most energy efficient. The technology in Conesus was manufactured by Intel and developed in partnership with Dell Technologies and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories under Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration funding. Supercomputers generate large amounts of data, so a new IBM-manufactured storage system, Erie, is part of the new installation. Its acquisition by LLE was enabled by federal and New York State funding.
