In this video, Mahalo's Windows expert Sean Hewitt discusses Microsoft Security Essentials.

Installing Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials is Microsoft's program for preventing Malware, Spyware and viruses. If you don't already have this program installed and you are running any validated version of Windows 7, you can easily download it for free.
Once at the site, click on the Download button to install.

Once it is installed, it will be located in the taskbar on the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
To open the program, double-click on it and you will be taken to the Security Essentials home screen.

Running Microsoft Security Essentials

1. Once at the home screen, the first thing you want to do is get an update. Click on the Update tab.

2. The Update action will double-check against Microsoft's database to make sure that you have the most up-to-date virus definitions, which will give you the most protection possible.

3. Click back to the Home tab and make sure that you run the full scan of your system the first time you launch this program. Click on Full for scan options and then click Scan now. This process could take a while, so you may want to step away from your computer for a bit.
