Part of the GSD Lectures on Technology: Engineering Design series.Jürg Conzett lives and works as a structural engineer in Chur, Switzerland. After having studied civil engineering at the ETH Z?rich he worked for several years in the architectural studio of Peter Zumthor until he founded his own engineering practice in 1988. Together he works with his partnersGianfranco Bronzini and Patrick Gartmann in an office employing some 25 people. His primary interest is the design of structures for bridges and buildings. This interest comprises also analyses and rehabilitations of existing structures. The work of the firm is known for careful insertion into its surroundings. He is used to collaborate in close connections with architects. In 1999 he was awarded the Prize for Alpine Architecture. He co-authored the book Structure as Space (edited by Mohsen Mostafavi 2006) and he conceived the exhibition and the catalogue Landscape and Structures together withthe photographer Martin Linsi for the Swiss contribution to the Architectural Biennale at Venice in 2010. Conzett will be a guest lecturer at the Harvard Design School for the Fall semester 2011.
