Robotic surgery is already a reality, but it is difficult for surgeons to practice their skills in circumstances that closely resemble real surgery. The University of Tokyo’s Kanako Harada has created a hyper realistic human model with sensors and actuators that mimic a patient’s response under surgery. As she discusses, it has other potential applications.
