Technology power, human toll – Launch of the Global Battery Alliance
The market for the lithium-ion batteries found in electric vehicles, portable electronic devices and energy storage will be worth $70 billion by 2024, yet production is linked to issues such as child labour, health and safety hazards for workers, environmental impacts and life-cycle sustainability. The World Economic Forum announces the Global Battery Alliance, a public-private coalition to build an inclusive, sustainable and innovative battery supply chain to power the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
