I’m so excited to give you a look into the pink room at Oeste—my latest design project with my good friend Yayo!
I grew up watching Genie’s Bottle and thought it had the most badass room of all time and really wanted to recreate something like that here. When Yayo and I were talking about it, we thought of Luis Barragnan, a renowned architect from Mexico, and his signature pink. I sifted through Dunn Edwards’ catalogue and landed on a very similar color called Berry Riche and when I pick a color I really commit to it.
The room has a lot of really fun textures and different elements like the beautiful Folk Project drapes made of Peruvian frazada, which I loved so much I added a frazada to the bed as an accent blanket. We also have amazing lived-in pieces like an untouched antique 1940’s drawer from Rejuvenation.
The bed itself is from Avocado Mattress, which are organic, made in California, and incredibly comfortable—so much so that I have them in every bedroom at Oeste. We then added Coyuchi organic cotton bedding that’s so soft and supple.
I also love the beautiful bougainvillea on the wall that, with permission, Yayo and I cut from his local community garden. It’s like a big, fluffy effervescent pink cloud hovering above the bed, which is framed by beautiful light fixtures from Mitzi that give off a stunning ambient glow.
Yayo and I also sourced a lot of the cool things in here from our travels to Mexico like an incredible collection of indigenous masks and a beloved skull candle I bought from an artisan in Senora made from sun bleached beeswax.
Thanks so much for joining! Head to thekitchykitchen.com to learn more about the pink room and make sure to follow Oeste on Instagram for more on my Yucca Valley project!
