Rochester Restart: Update on health and safety protocols for Fall 2020

Senior leadership at the University of Rochester offered an update on July 23, 2020, on health and safety processes and protocols to reopen campus in the fall. Speakers included Michael Apostolakos, M.D., chief medical officer for Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital, Patricia Beaumont, director of support operations, Mike Chihoski, senior associate vice president for facilities and services, Robert Clark, provost and senior vice president for research, and Brenda Tesini, M.D., assistant professor of Infectious Diseases and associate hospital epidemiologist at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

The panel covered a range of topics, including current health guidelines and which COVID test the University is employing; cleaning protocols for classrooms, labs, and public spaces; the science behind social distancing, PPE, and indoor and outdoor ventilation; what happens if someone tests positive for COVID-19; community thresholds and factors we’re closely monitoring; and ways we can ensure that our community members follow the guidelines to keep everyone safe and healthy.
