‘Forever chemicals’ make products non-stick or waterproof. They are formally known as PFAS and are used in cookware, clothing, and fire-repellent foam. Scientists created a new material that traps up to 99% of forever chemicals from drinking water. The chemicals are scrubbed off the material and destroyed. While the material itself can be reused. The silica-based material was created by researchers at the University of British Columbia.
Long-term exposure to PFAS is linked to a range of health problems, including heart disease and cancer. Watch to learn more about forever chemicals. #chemicals #plastic #pfas #health #science #universityofbritishcolumbia
