Security Council extends mandate of African Union Mission in Somalia and authorizes troop reduction, unanimously adopting resolution 2472 (2019) at 8537th meeting.
The Security Council today (31 May) unanimously voted to extend the mandate of the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) for another year. Somali Ambassador Mohamed Rabi Yusuf said, “we are cognizant that AMISOM cannot stay in Somalia forever,” but stressed that “any planned drawdown must be done after thoroughly assessing the conditions on the ground.”
