Spaghetti & Tomato Sauce For Kids Recipe - Healthy Food for Children Tricks
Kids Food - Making Healthy dishes your Children may eat
I have two very young children (2 and 4) and getting them to eat can be at best a struggle. Well it is a struggle getting them to eat food that is good for them at least. I want my kids to eat beans and other pulses, green vegetables and so on and they want to eat fried food, sweet food and everything that is for sure not green veggies. So i am permanently having a struggle with them as i know many parents are.
I have come up with a few tricks that have worked and wanted to share them with you. I would also like to point out i have tried many tricks that have just not worked, but i keep going.
Starting with a pretty basic and well loved dish of pasta and tomatoes, i found i could slip in a few vegetables and some goodness and at the same time suiting their taste buds and a love for all things unhealthy.
So Spaghetti is for sure what i have found to be the pasta of choice, it is fun for them to eat and we all have a great laugh sucking and slurping it into our mouths. Onions and garlic, now my kids hate these two things, just i did i suppose when i was young. So what i do is chop them super fine, in fact i use a food proseccor to get them extra fine. Now i also use this method with carrots, spinach, zucchini, mushrooms, kale and so on. Simply by chopping the vegetables really fine i can get them in the sauce, cooked well and they will go for it. I start the sauce off with a touch of olive oil, a tiny amount of salt, no pepper we have not got that far yet, the chopped onions, garlic and lets say carrots and gently fry them until they become soft but not crisp in any way. To this i add a can or tin of chopped plum tomatoes and finely chopped fresh tomato. slowly cook this on a simmer for 15 mins and then to please them and to get rid of any sour or tart taste add a touch of tomato ketchup. Now this is working for me at the moment and i of course have to adapt every now and then as they are growing. This may not work for your little ones but please it it a go and keep trying to get some goodness into them.
You can if you like add a little grated cheese on top or in the mix.
