I seriously can’t believe that my new book #ViralParenting will be released TOMORROW! Its the SCARIEST thing I’ve ever done, talking about our parenting style, faith, and stories about our kids. Today I want to be very open and honest with you about how I’m feeling…

We are the first generation of parents who were raised in a completely analog world, raising our own kids in a completely tech world. It's the new Wild West here, and we’re the bridge. Nobody is REALLY talking about the long-term effects of technology on kids, or how to maintain a balance of the analog world with the digital so that our kids understand their own digital footprint.
You wouldn’t hand the keys to your brand new car to a 12-yr old, right? There are things that need to be done first, like reaching a responsible age, taking driver’s ed, getting a learner’s permit, obtaining a full license, and even then STILL have to obey all traffic laws forever or suffer consequences. You earn your way to responsible use. This process keeps everyone safe. Why are we not treating technology the same way??? The long-term damage technology can cause can be just as dangerous to our kids (and others) when they don’t quite understand how they are using and/or misusing it. In fact, the damage can affect more people than a mere fender bender in a car, and we see this in the media every day.
One of our most-asked questions we get is, “How do you do it all?” The follow up is usually, “How do you balance raising six kids, with successful YouTube channels, yet still have time for extracurricular activities, full-time school, etc, … and they still seem normal?” Well, the simple answer is that we have a system, with tips and tricks, rules and consequences that both kids AND parents follow.
Releasing Viral Parenting to the world to read is, without a doubt, one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done. I’ve never been quite THIS open and raw about my thoughts on certain topics like faith, mistakes, and parenting styles.
There’s no guidebook to raising children. Talking about parenting in this digital age is something that I feel fairly confident in, but sharing personal information with the world in this capacity is extremely scary. Being more open and vulnerable with all of you has been a goal of mine this year, and part of doing that is by showing y’all not only my victories, but some of my daily struggles, too. It's all part of our story.
I want to thank my family for helping me write this book, and to each of you who have asked the questions above so often that I finally felt the need to share. I feel so blessed to be able to do this, and give you an even deeper look into our family, simple tips and hacks for tech, and my thoughts on parenting kids in this wild, digital age.
