H.E. Mr. Jeremy Hunt, MP, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, was briefing reporters at the Security Council Stakeout. The United Kingdom holds the presidency of the Security Council for the month of August.

British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt told reporters that to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, the international community “must stay united” in keeping the pressure up on North Korea through sanctions.
Asked about denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula in New York today (23 Aug), Hunt said that to make the progress “quickly”, the international community “has to be united,” adding that all the permanent members of the Security Council “share the ambition” to do so.
Hunt also noted that “the more we weaken the pressure on North Korea by allowing, making it easy for them to dodge the sanctions, the less pressure they will have to do that.”
He reiterated that “this is a moment when the international community must stay united.”
The British Foreign Secretary on Wednesday (22 Aug) met with the US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, during which they had discussion about the Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK) and other global issues.
