The Venezuelan Project performs a medley of "Merenguisimo,” “Blue Ensemble,” and "Pajarillo." The first two are by members Josu Ortiz and Carlos Capacho, while the last is traditional. The medley of the three is entitled Roots Medley.
The Venezuelan Project is a group that was created by 4 students studying at Berklee College of Music in during Spring 2015. The group focuses on recovering and combining traditional folkloric Venezuelan styles, with contemporary genres of the music world. Current members are Ali Tovar on bass (Caracas), Carlos Capacho on the Venezuelan Cuatro (Guayana), Alexis Soto on percussion (Caracas), Josu Ortiz on piano (Caracas), and Eduardo Betancourt on Llanera Harp (Caracas), who joined the band in 2017.
Since its creation, The Venezuelan Project has performed in multiple venues like the Berklee Performance Center, House of Blues, NPR Radio Station, Dreamfarm radio, as well as numerous festivals and events like the 2016 Beantown Jazz Festival, Berklee International Folk Festival, Berklee Encore Gala 2015 and 2016, Berklee Summer in the City 2017, among others.
