Brief to the media by H.E Nikki R. Haley, Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of September 2018, on the U.S. priorities for the 73rd UN General Assembly High-Level Week.
US Ambassador Nikki Haley said today that the main goal for the US administration during the forthcoming 73rd General Assembly is to “ make the American people proud and what actions we can show that live up to that.”
Speaking to reporters in New York Thursday (20 Sep) the Permanent representative of the US to the United Nations Nikki Haley outlined the program of the of the US administration for the 73rd General Debate, taking place next week in New York.
Haley said that “the focus will be very much on the United States, what our role is in the world, the relationships that we want to continue to build and what we can do about that. I think the goal that we all have as an administration is how we can make the American people proud and what actions we can show that live up to that.”
Announcing the speech of the US President at the gathering of world leaders next Tuesday (25 Sep), Haley said “he will talk about foreign aid, how generous the United States is, but he will also lay down a marker that while the United States is generous, we are going to be generous to those that share our values, generous to those who want to work with us and not those that try and stop the United States or say hey hate America and are counter-productive to what we are doing.”
Outlining the main topic for the US to discuss during the General Debate, Haley singled out Iran and said, “talking about Iran, talking about their proxies, talking about the other things they are doing to destabilize the Middle East would certainly be a topic” and underlined “Iran continues to be a problem. Every dangerous spot in the world Iran seems to have its fingerprints in it.”
She also said that despite the recent progress in denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, “we are long way from making sure we get to that place we want to go.”
