Press Briefing by Samuel Moncada, Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations.
Venezuelan Ambassador Samuel Moncada denounced US "aggression" against his country adding that there was “no will to allow the Venezuelans to resolve their own matters freely, independently and in a peaceful manner. They are determined to take Venezuela by military means, and we need to stop that.”
Speaking to reporters today (12 Jul) in New York, Moncada said that the head of the Organization of American States(OAS) Luis Almagro and US Special Representative for Venezuela Elliott Abrams held a press conference on Venezuela today at the OAS headquarters in Washington.
Responding to the conference, the Venezuelan Ambassador said, “the purpose of this Washington conference, what it shows is that the US is determined to impose a violent solution to Venezuela. It is determined to push the Venezuelans to a violent outcome.”
He continued, “they are trying to tell the world that they are in charge of this dialogue process and they don’t agree with the dialogue process, the dialogue process is bound to fail and that the only solution to this situation in Venezuela is a foreign military intervention.”
Asked about the conference held in Barbados, Moncada said, “one of the ways to stop the war against my country is to identify which are the most important agents of violence in my country and I can tell you that my country is right now at peace.”
He continued, “there are no armed groups, there are no armed conflicts, there are no riots on the streets. The economic situation is difficult, but there is no war. But look at our neighbours. We have a neighbour on our west side, which is regaining the war path that they have been kept for more than 70 years. My point is we don’t want to get involved in that war, and they are pushing their war against us. We need to keep Venezuela at peace and the only way is the dialogue and Barbados is one way to do it.”
According to reports, talks between the Venezuelan government and the opposition group were held this week in Barbados and mediated by Norway.
