What does the number mean on pasta?
Every manufacturer has its own code but sticks to the rule that a higher number corresponds to an increase in girth.
For example, Barilla has spaghetti no. 3, 5, 7, and 8 in order of thickness, but every other pasta format also has a number.
De Cecco has spaghetti no. 11, 12, 412, 413, and 414 in order of thickness, and also have numbers for every other format.
So basically it is just a product code that varies for every maker, but with spaghetti, it has some correlation with girth.
