This tutorial will review the shortcomings of 12c DB Express and Cloud Control and introduce Alato.
Oracle Database 12c does not come with OEM DB Control; it is shipped with a lesser tool called DB Express. DB Express, for example, does not have the ability to schedule backups (strange). So, you could use Cloud Control, a nice, but resource intensive management too. However, if you would like an easy-to-use, Lightweight Administration Tool for Oracle, try ALATO from SkillBuilders. It is especially useful for Oracle Standard Edition Databases! For example, Alato allows you to set metric thresholds and email notifications if alerts are raised.

Alato is written in Oracle APEX for Linux operating systems (a Windows version is planned for 2016).
