Hill End, the outdoor education centre next to Wytham Woods, has been educating children on the magic of the outdoor world for generations. Searching for snails at night time and exploring the Woods are a couple of the immersive activities that parents of today can remember from their time at Hill End. The nurturing, positive ethos of the place was borne out of a tragic event, however, and its history is inextricably linked to grief. Wytham Woods and Hill End, both sides of the hill, are not just neighbours; they share an ideological space thanks to the ffennell family: public education and access to the great outdoors, now and forever more.
