Betsee Parker, MDiv ’85, an Episcopal priest whose philanthropy supports education, community development, and public health in Africa, is a 2016 recipient of the Peter J. Gomes STB ’68 Memorial Honors.
Parker says she’s just hitting her stride. Like the “medical missionary” and theologian Albert Schweitzer who was her earliest hero, humanitarian work and philanthropy are her ministry.
“Today I feel that the fullness of my HDS education—the liberal tradition, the openness to multifaith work—has all paid off. My work is more global now, and I feel I’ve been well-trained for it.”
Selected annually by the HDS Alumni/Alumnae Council, the Peter J. Gomes STB ’68 Memorial Honors recognizes distinguished HDS alumni whose excellence in life, work, and service pays homage to the mission and values of Peter J. Gomes STB ’68 and Harvard Divinity School.
