Afghanistan is one of the countries most affected by landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW), which killed or injured some 2,100 Afghans last year. December 2017, the UN Mine Action Service asked documentary photographer Cengiz Yar to shadow the life of Afghan deminers, who put their lives at risk to save others. He spoke to UN News about the harsh realities Afghan deminers face in carrying out their important work.
