Alas! I am finally back! I hope you didn't miss me too much! lol Today I am sharing a recipe for a dessert called baklava. Now this isn't the multi-layered phyllo dough cinnamon spiced flavored baklava. This particular one is made with a simple flour dough, cardamom, almonds, pistachios and a tasty rose water syrup. Did I say rose water? Oh so heavenly!
The main reason I make my Baklava with the flour dough is simple...It's how my boyfriend's parents prefer it. I tried bringing the phyllo version once, however they kept complimenting the dough version I brought the previous year. (I got the hint. lol) So if you're wanting to try something new or you don't wish to butter multiple sheets of phyllo dough, then give this a try. ;-)
Please note:
* When making the dough, the food processor does move and shake a little...(Well at least mine does). So be careful if it's placed on an edge because it might fall off!
* I recommend making the filling before making the dough in the food processor because it will be easier to clean between uses.
* You can lessen the amount of sugar if you like.
* Make sure you pour the syrup while the baklava is still hot, so it can absorb all that rose water goodness!
* Ideally you want your top layer to cover the whole baking sheet, but it's okay if it doesn't. I don't fret over it too much, because that just means more sweet treats for me! ;-)
