Betty demonstrates how to make Super Sloppy Joes. Served on toasted brioche buns, these Super Sloppy Joes make a terrific informal lunch or dinner.
Super Sloppy Joes
1 pound ground beef
½ cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon flour
1 cup water
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
¾ cup ketchup
brioche buns (or any sandwich buns)
½ tablespoon butter (for toasting 2 buns)
mayonnaise to coat cut sides of brioche buns
In a deep skillet, place ground beef, onion, salt, and pepper. Brown the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until no pick is showing on the ground beef and the onions are softened. Stir in flour, water, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Cook, stirring occasionally for 15 to 20 minutes, or until desired consistency is reached. When Sloppy Joe mixture is done, toast the buns as follows. For two buns, melt ½ tablespoon butter in skillet. Spread cut sides of brioche buns with just a small amount of mayonnaise and place, cut side down, in skillet. Toast over low to medium heat, until cut sides are crusty around outside. Use a slotted spoon to place Sloppy Joe mixture on toasted bottom bun half. Cover with toasted top bun half. Serve immediately! I hope you enjoy this tasty version of Sloppy Joes. --Betty
