Mathematical models have been used worldwide to inform policy responses to COVID-19, particularly by using model simulations to predict the effects of different non-pharmaceutical interventions. While the results of modelling studies informed the introduction of lockdowns in the UK and elsewhere, modelling is useful throughout epidemics.
