Eight communities have been selected by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to receive the 2017 RWJF Culture of Health Prize, and are honored for their unwavering efforts to ensure all residents have the opportunity to live healthier lives. As illustrated by a subset of these communities in this video, health is defined in the broadest terms where partners are innovating to focus on social and economic factors that influence well-being. In San Pablo, Calif., the city has made eliminating barriers to employment and supporting small business a priority. The Seneca Nation of Indians (NY) is addressing high unemployment with job training, economic development and a small business loan program. In Richmond, Va., a “community wealth building” initiative is transitioning public housing residents into mixed-income developments and creating bus rapid transit lines to connect city dwellers with jobs in suburban areas.
