Between 2005 and 2014, 700,000 people have died in disaster events worldwide. A total of 1.7 billion people have been affected. Economic losses in major disaster events over the last decade come to $1.4 trillion. In 2015, United Nations member states adopted the Sendai Framework which maps out a broad, people-centred approach to disaster risk reduction until the year 2030.
