Eat the damn cake. When I was in my twenties, I never felt thin enough to be a successful fitness YouTuber despite being one of the first and most successful fitness YouTubers ????
I took a step back when Tommy was born and the time spent away allowed me to heal without the harsh comments from complete strangers on my appearance.
I was guilty of trying to eat too little which led to sugar cravings. The cravings felt out of control (they weren’t). But I felt like I needed to burn them off through extreme exercise like 6-10 mile runs and SoulCycle/Barry’s 5x a week. I like these things but the purpose was to burn off “bad food” not build lean muscle. It wasn’t mentally great when I’d constantly just lose and gain the same 5-10 lbs.
Eating enough protein, eating more carbs and focusing on strength/muscle building vs cardio and restriction was the game changer.
I still dabble in YouTube and people will leave comments like, you look better after three kids and I don’t disagree but I’m still the same weight! The difference is that I only exercise 20-30 minutes 5x a week and eat more real food!!
