This week's top stories of the week include:

15 Eco-cleaner made from sugar – It uses chemicals called rhamnolipids which are converted from sugar by fermentation using natural organisms. Rhamnolipids are good at scrubbing away dirt and bacteria while being mild on your skin and the environment. They’re also 100% biodegradable so they don’t pollute water sources or leach into the ground.

41 Creating zero-emission aluminum – Traditionally, smelting extracts aluminium from aluminium oxide, known as ‘alumina’. This happens when an electric current is passed over alumina in a smelter in a process called electrolysis. The current forces alumina to react with carbon to create primary aluminium but the process also produces CO2. Now, aluminium company Hydro is developing a zero-emission process, called HalZero.

28 This is the world's largest plane – The WindRunner will have 12 times the volume of a Boeing 747, be as wide as a New York City block and will run on sustainable aviation fuel. Its purpose is to carry huge wind turbine blades which are too large to transport by road.

20 These 5 climate facts need more attention – Climate change is hitting the world’s most vulnerable hardest. At the Annual Meeting of the New Champions, experts discussed combining policy with technology to drive climate action. With the right approach, the energy transition can create jobs and prosperity, presenting enormous potential for emerging economies.
