The other is a last-ditch effort to save its creator from certain destruction, a product forged from that peculiar mixture of desperation and determination that sometimes begets pure art."

That's a pretty pretentious way of putting a smartphone comparison, but it's how we kicked off last year's HTC One (M7) vs Galaxy S 4 comparison video. The interesting thing is, if you change "fourth-generation" to "fifth-generation" and tone down the HTC FUD a tad, that paragraph applies just as much to the HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S 5 -- the top two contenders for Android superphone of the season here in the States.

We've already reviewed the HTC One M8 and given it one of the highest review scores we've ever bestowed on a smartphone. Next week, we'll be following that up with a full review of the AT&T Galaxy S5 we unboxed a few days ago.
