How Many Tickers Should You have in Your Watchlist - Trading For Beginners

How many tickers are in my watchlist, and how do I narrow them down for my portfolio? This depends on a few factors. Generally, I focus on tickers with weekly options, a good bid-ask spread, and manageable volatility, as I primarily trade options.

After scanning for these criteria, I usually have around 200 tickers on my broader watchlist. The actual number I trade depends on account size. For beginners, I recommend starting with just five tickers, as this keeps things manageable while you learn.

As your account grows, you can gradually expand to 20, 40, or even 60 tickers. Starting with a small selection helps build strategy and reduces overwhelm in the early stages.
