14. That’s how old ‘Isma’ was when she was recruited by an armed group in the Central African Republic. In 2013, conflict broke out in her home country and without enough resources to afford further education, she became part of a militia. “I was armed with a gun. I could do anything,” she says.
In May 2015, Isma, along with over 300 children, were released from armed groups following a UNICEF-facilitated agreement. Rehabilitation centres are helping the children reintegrate into their communities and deal with the trauma of conflict.
