"We killed people like they were termites,” says 17-year-old Junior as he sits in a rehabilitation centre in the Central African Republic. When the country spiraled into civil war, his father was killed - a driving factor in his recruitment into an armed group. Between thoughts of vengeance and drug-assisted battle, Junior is now starting to process his experiences during the conflict. He now says, "I just want peace."
In May 2015, Junior, along with over 300 children, were released from armed groups following a UNICEF-facilitated agreement. Rehabilitation centres are helping the children reintegrate into their communities and deal with the trauma of conflict.
