Esraa, 15, is one of more than two million children in war-torn Syria who are out of school. As the Syria conflict escalated, going to school became increasingly dangerous and she had to drop out of the fifth grade. "I used to see my brother and sister reading a story that I couldn't read," says Esraa. She lost five years of education before she learned how to read and write through a literacy program. Today, she is enrolled in a UNICEF-supported self-learning programme to get back on track with her studies.
