Hello everyone;
I am Ali Graboski and today I'm going to discuss how smoking affects your baby. Smoking is a bad and unhealthy habit, but smoking during pregnancy is even more so. Your own health and health of your child should be a priority. Why? The reason is simple; nicotine, carbon monoxide, and other poisons you inhale from a cigarette are carried through your bloodstream and go directly to your baby.
Let's take a look at the most common effects smoking has on your pregnancy:
Increases baby's heart rate
Decreases amount of oxygen available to your baby
Raises risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
Increases risk for birth defects
Increases chances for stillbirth and miscarriage
Raises risk that the baby is born prematurely and/or born with low birth weight
Increases risk for respiratory problems
In fact, the more cigarettes you smoke during the day, the greater the baby's chances of developing these and other health problems. When it comes to smoking during pregnancy, there is no "safe level".
