BASIC DECORATING TUTORIAL FOR ROYAL ICING:https://youtu.be/DCMLAGzoM0A

INGREDIENTS
5 tbsp meringue powder
¾ cup (6oz.) warm water
1 tsp cream of tartar
2 lbs powder sugar (also known as confectioners sugar)

Substitute 1/2 cup of warm water for 1/2 cup lemon or orange juice for other flavors.

Add 1 tsp almond extract or vanilla extract (if not already in meringue powder) for other flavors

DIRECTIONS:
In the bowl of your kitchen aid (or with a hand mixer,) whisk warm water and meringue powder together for about 30 seconds. Then add the cream of tartar and whisk for another 30 seconds. Add the bowl to the kitchen aid, attached with the paddle attachment. Add the powdered sugar and mix on medium speed for about ten minutes.
This will be the thickness for decorating gingerbread houses. To decorate cookies, add ½ tsp of water at a time, plus any desired food coloring and continue to mix until 10 second icing is achieved. See video for what 10 second icing is.
Note: you will not need to add very much water, but if your icing becomes too thin, add a little more of the thick icing.
Add to piping bags fitted with 1 or 1.5 size tips.
