I am a Firewalker - Unleash The Power Within (UPW)
Melissa Etheridge, the iconic American singer-songwriter, decided to embark on the journey of a lifetime with her wife, Linda Wallem Etheridge, by participating in the Tony Robbins firewalk.
Firewalking sounds exhilarating in principle, but you don’t know how you’ll react to seeing the hot coals for the first time until you arrive at the event. Although they signed up for the Tony Robbins firewalk and were excited for the challenge ahead, the actuality of the event didn’t sink in until they arrived. “Of course we were scared of the fire,” said Melissa Etheridge. The couple were surprised that the firewalk took place the first day of the event — and they were intimidated by the sights and smells of the hot coals.
The pair also brought their son to the event, and was inspired to tackle the challenge with him by their side. They believe it sent a powerful message to him — that he, along with his mothers, is capable of accomplishing anything.
One of Melissa Etheridge’s most famous songs, “I’m the Only One,” has a lyric that the singer recalled during the Tony Robbins firewalk: “I’m the only one who’ll walk across the fire for you.” This line came to mind during the event, and Melissa realized that it was in need of a slight revision: “I’m the only one who’ll walk across the fire for me.” The firewalk, while able to bring participants closer together, is ultimately an individual feat that lets those who attempt it know they’re capable of anything they set their mind to.
After the experience, Melissa said that, “It taught me that my state, and my mind, can control whether something’s going to hurt me.” Although this lesson applies directly to walking across a hot bed of coals, it can also be applied to other aspects of anyone’s life. Do we choose to let our emotions and insecurities get the best of us? Or do we pursue our goals and dreams no matter the challenges we face in trying to achieve them?
Linda Wallem Etheridge noted that there are two emotions one can cling to in times of adversity: love and fear. She believes that the firewalk showed her fear was not the answer, and instead to embrace love. By relying on positive emotions and letting go of negative ones that can be draining, Linda and her fellow firewalkers can work toward building or maintaining the life they’ve always envisioned for themselves.
Tony Robbins firewalk reviews, such as this one given by Melissa and Linda, prove that anyone is capable of taking on the challenge. Those who feel like their goals are beyond them, or that they’re not finding the satisfaction in life that they crave, will find that they emerge with a new sense of confidence and zeal for life once they complete the firewalk.
