United Nations - Liberia has overcome the odds. Despite a fragile peace in the wake of its 14-year civil war, and the ravages of a recent ebola outbreak, the country has remained stable and free of violent conflict. Yet remnants of war still threaten its population. Thousands of unexploded bombs still linger throughout the country. These highly volatile explosives can maim or kill anyone who handles them without care. UNMAS trains the national police services and armed forces of Liberia to safely remove the threat of unexploded ordnance. After extensive training, these professional police and military forces can now identify, move and securely dispose of all explosive remnants of war.
