The Indian Gharial, Gavialis gangeticus, is one of the largest living crocodilians and this skull – from the University’s Museum of Zoology – is one of the largest in any collection. It was collected from the Yamuna River in north-central India, and presented to the Museum in 1897.by Ernest Hanbury Hankin – a pioneering bacteriologist working in India, on the spread of disease.
