Delivered on March 18, 2006. Michael Zimmerman is chair and Professor of Philosophy at Tulane University. His academic specialties include recent German philosophy and environmental philosophy. Author of three books, Eclipse of the Self: The Development of Heidegger's Concept of Authenticity, Heidegger's Confrontation with Modernity, and Contesting Earth's Future: Radical Ecology and Postmodernity, and editor of a major anthology, Environmental Philosophy, Zimmerman has also published almost a hundred articles and book chapters. He is currently co-authoring (with Sean Esbjorn-Hargens) a book to be called Integral Ecology. In addition to having co-directed Tulane's Environmental Studies Program for a decade, Zimmerman is Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Tulane School of Medicine, where he teaches a course on philosophy and psychotherapy.
