Papa’s Sinigang Pork Recipe
Ingredients:
1 tbs vegetable oil
1 lb of pork chopped
1 1/2 pack of tamarind soup mix (sampalok mix)
4 cups of water
String beans
1 onion
Broccoli
Spinach
1 spoonful of patis (fish sauce)
1 eggplant
Instructions
Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Stir in the onion; cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent,
about 5 minutes.
Stir in the vegetables and pork.
Cover and reduce heat to medium-low. Turn the pork occasionally, until browned.
Pour in the water and tamarind soup base. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat.
Continue simmering until the pork is tender and cooked through, about 30
minutes.
Stir in string beans and cook until tender.
Gong Gong and Po Po Chow Fan (Grandpa and Grandma's Fried Rice)
Ingredients:
2 cups cooked rice - preferably day old
3 carrots finely cut
1/2 of an onion finely cut
3 eggs
3 Chinese sausage (option to remove sausage casing)* finely cut
Chopped green onions for garnish
Salt (option for taste)
Soy Sauce (option for taste)
Instructions:
1. Soak the Chinese sausage in a bowl for 5 mins, than strip off the sausage casing. Set aside
(FYI you can put Chinese sausage in the freezer, and this method to remove the casing will
work on a frozen sausage too)
2. Scramble the eggs in a bowl. Then cook it in a pan, spreading the egg around the pan, than
flip the right and left side into the center so you have a rectangularish shaped omelet. Cut into
cubes. Set aside.
3. Quickly stir fry the Chinese sausage for a few minutes until it is aromatic. Set aside.
4. Stir fry the onions and carrots for a few minutes to soften
5. Add the rice. Add a little water to soften any chunks. It for a few minutes
6. Add the Chinese sausage, cook for a few minutes. Mix well.
7. Add the cubed egg. Mix well.
8. Transfer to a serving bowl, add the green onion on top for garnish
Chong Family Seawood Soup Recipe
Ingredients:
Dried seaweed
Water
Garlic
Soy sauce
Pepper
Sesame Oil
Beef
Instructions:
1. Take dried seaweed and soak it in water for 15-20 minutes. Strain and clean the seaweed with running water
and set aside.
2. Clean beef (you can also use chicken or clams). Saute the beef for a few minutes and add some garlic and
pepper while it sautes. Add some sesame oil and saute some more.
3. Add seaweed to the pot of meat and cook. Stir so that the seaweed gets the sesame oil cooked in it. Let all the
ingredients cook for a few minutes.
4. Add 3 cups of water and boil for 30 minutes or more. Boil for a few hours to get a nice beef flavor with tender
meat.
