During this tutorial Mahalo's Windows expert Sean Hewitt shows you how to install a new printer. He also explains how to manually install an old printer without the driver disk.

Options for Adding a Printer
---------------------------------------------------------------------

First, consult your printer's manual. Some printers require additional software to be installed, and you want to make sure that it is installed in the proper order.
Printers interact with your computer using drivers. Make sure that you have the most recent driver installed so that you can use all of the functions that are available for your printer. To find the most recent driver, look at your printer and find the make and model. Then go to the manufacturer's website and download the newest driver for your operating system.

If your printer connects via USB, then connect your printer to your computer's USB port and await installation instructions. If your computer does not connect via USB, then click the Start button at the bottom left side of your screen. Click Devices and Printers on the drop-down menu and then click on Add Printer.
To add a printer locally, select your port (if it is not connected through USB it will almost always be connected through your LPT port. If you connect your printer through your LBT port, make sure that your computer is turned off when you connect it. Then, if you know the name of your driver, you can select it. If not, you can also search for your driver by clicking Windows Update or install it from a disc by clicking Have Disc.
You can also choose to give your printer a name and share it on your network. Then try printing a test page to make sure your new printer is working.
